What Kinds of Teams Make Use of ITAP’s TPQ System?

ITAP’s TPQs have been utilized for over 20 years with clients in the pharmaceutical, chemical, consumer products and IT industries. Examples of teams that have used the TPQs include:

  • Pharmaceutical Drug Development Teams
  • Global Health and Safety Teams
  • Merger and Acquisition Implementation Teams
  • International Consulting Teams
  • Senior Executive Teams
  • Action Learning Teams
ITAP’s three team assessment instruments share a common approach and discipline. These are:
  1. The Global Team Process Questionnaire™ (GTPQ), for teams that operate across borders. The GTPQ measures human process interactions - how well members work together. Against a baseline, companies can measure change, identify areas for improvement, compare their results to industry averages, and measure the successes needed to figure out the actual return on investment.

Many global team responses to the questionnaire have identified underlying cultural differences. Sometimes the teams are also administered the Hofstede Culture in the Workplace Questionnaire™ (CWQ) which illustrates culturally dependent work preferences/behaviors which may be creating tensions on teams.  Group bar charts and comparison data provide respondents with insights about themselves and a better understanding of how their cultural preferences, as well as the cultural preferences of others, impact team relationships.

In this book, Catherine Mercer Bing provides guidance for improving team function and performance. Drawing on her extensive experience in supporting global teams, she challenges team leaders and members to reflect on their cultural assumptions and provides key advice concerning engagement, productivity and human process interactions on teams.

  2. The Organizational Team Process Questionnaire™ (OTPQ), for teams that operate within borders. The OTPQ, a derivative of the GTPQ, is designed to assess teams that are not global or multicultural.

  3. The Action Learning Team Process Questionnaire™ (ALTPQ), designed for self-directed work teams which have a learning coach. It assesses the group dynamics and learning experiences of action learning sets/teams.
